I had not shot a photo for 131 days.
This was after I shattered the LCD accidently backing into my Nikon 300S mounted on a tripod the night I was shooting at Rainier. The camera sat on the shelf for a month since I refused to get it fixed – a self inflicted punishment for my callousness. When I finally did send it in to the good guys at Camera Tech, it sat there for another couple of months because the parts were back ordered. Once I got it back, to my utter surprise, I actually fumbled to perform some basic operations. Just four months away from it and I had forgotten what I thought was committed to muscle memory.
I am researching a potential trip to Masai Mara to experience the big migration first hand. Watching some exhilarating shots by top photographers got me out of bed on a Sunday with a huge urge to shoot wild life – something I have rarely do. Shoot wildlife, I mean. It did not take much to convince by daughter to drive down to the Woodland Park Zoo to spend a pleasant afternoon, shutterbugging, like the good old days
I find it funny when people look at a nicely composed, picture of a wild beast, ask you where it is taken and go “oh!” with a hint of disappointment when they hear it was taken at a zoo. As if, anything not show sitting in a bush with a high zoom lens in the middle of Serengeti has lower intrinsic value.
